Magazine for bilingual children

Cat in a bag

It has been published in the U.S. since 2019.

This is a children’s magazine in Russian for families raising children outside Russia who want to preserve the Russian language and pass on their cultural heritage.

For children, the magazine is a fun companion and playmate. It arrives in an envelope in the mailbox—and that’s an adventure in itself!

Remember how great it is to receive paper letters when they aren’t bills or insurance notices? And a BIG paper letter? Here it is!

From the Editor

Ekaterina Tretyakova is the editor-in-chief of the magazine “Cat in a Bag”

Dear Parents! You’re doing a great job! Really! The Russian language is a challenging topic right now. It’s very emotional, very delicate—some people even feel ashamed (not me, but I understand that can happen)—and it’s often hard to understand why. But still, you’ve visited the website of a children’s magazine in Russian, which means you care. Thank you for that!

Ekaterina Tretyakova, Editor-in-Chief

Our readers are rushing to their mailboxes!

Every issue is packed with engaging stories, original illustrations, and great ideas for hands-on activities. All this fun comes right to your doorstep. It’s especially heartwarming to see how the magazine inspires children: they discuss, ask questions, reflect, and try new things.

We received the magazine—and it’s absolutely wonderful! The illustrations are fantastic, and the cover is gorgeous (I even found myself thinking I’d love to have a T-shirt like that 😊). The content is really interesting and informative: we read the poems and had a good laugh as a family! Today we’re going to bake some cookies 🙏

As soon as I sent you the email, I received your magazine in an envelope just 20 minutes later! I was so happy and even laughed, thinking, “What a coincidence!”

Your magazine is simply magnificent! The illustrations are wonderful, and the content is very interesting and informative. Thank you so much for the high-quality, heartfelt work. It’s a wonderful gift for my friend and her daughter! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

(from the comfort of my armchair, but it's still great)

Cultural Code

Classic works appropriate for their age group and free of fanaticism. As well as works by contemporary authors, some of which cannot be published in Russia at this time.

Lots of interactive content

Games with letters and words that kids absolutely love!

(And we know that while they’re laughing their heads off at the “What kind of crocodile are you in the swamp?” quiz, they’re actually learning to read and write in Russian)
